British Council, YADA Foundation and Future is Brighter Youth Platform conducted a research titled “Next Generation Turkey”. According to associate professor Gülden Demet Lüküslü, one of the academic consultants of the Project, Next Generation research aims to shed light on “the complicated daily lives of the young”. The research was conducted in 12 cities, included both qualitative and quantitative interviews with 2524 people between the ages 18-30.

According to the research, youth in Turkey -just like their peers around the world-constantly try to balance between individuality, independence and dependence on society, family, education and etc.

Some of the highlights from the research:

Youth in Turkey are optimistic about their future. Majority of them believes that the living conditions will improve. Half of them spare more than two hours to spend on WhatsApp and other social media applications. 70% of them do not make time for art activities such as playing an instrument, drawing or painting. %50 of them do not do any sports or any physical exercise. More than half of the youth believe that in order to succeed in business life, it is more important to have some “friends at court” than to have a good education. %26 of them neither get any education nor have a job. %17 of this rate belongs to young males, while it increases to %36 in females.
