From Diyarbakır to Around the World

Diyarbakır Environment and Development Association was founded in 2013 and continues to attract young people’s attention in Diyarbakır.

The association works on subjects such as gender equality, climate change, social media, equality, environment, development, human rights and immigration and aims to broaden the minds of the youth in Diyarbakır by sending almost a hundred of them abroad each year. We interviewed Mehmet Altuntop, President of the Association, about their work and the effects of Erasmus (+) projects on the youth.

Could you briefly tell us about the association?

Diyarbakır Environment and Development Association focuses mostly on environment and youth projects, specifically on an international scale.  We collaborate with educational institutions, regional development offices and CSOs in all over Turkey.

What is your field of study?

We generally work on Erasmus+ exchange projects and hold trainings. Our field of study is wide: we focus on immigration, refugees, gender equality, and health and so on. Also, we conduct some social responsibility projects. Thanks to our works, two more schools have their own libraries now. We hold trainings on sexual health, etc.

Why do you think young people should come to your association?

Our association is not a tour company. Young people that have dreams and want to produce new things, want to know different cultures are always welcome. It is better if they are active and free from prejudices. We invite anyone who wants to discover new aspects of life and actualize their dreams.
