From Colombia to Diyarbakır: Peace and Gender

DEMOS, Research Center for Peace, Democracy and Alternative Politics, shared their publication called “Peace and Gender: The Colombian Peace Process” with participants in Diyarbakır.

This publication looks into the 50-year-long conflict in Colombia and its recent peace agreement. Focusing on women’s and LGBTQ+ organizations, the report analyses how they experienced the peace process. The research is based upon interviews made by Güneş Daşlı, Nisan Alıcı and Julia Poch Figueras and aims to analyze the Colombian peace process between the government and the FARC-EP from a gender perspective.

The last section of the report includes recommendations for Turkey. Their titles go as: Conducting a gender conflict analysis, civil society cooperation, alliances between women’s and LGBTQI+ movements, land reform, political participation, specificities of rural areas, land and culture, intersectionality, sexual violence, peace education, political agency, security of human rights defenders, political risks during the implementation, gender mainstreaming, reintegration of ex-combatants and structural change.
