LISTAG Issues Three Guides for the Families and Relatives of LGBTI+ Individuals

LISTAG (Families and Friends of LGBTIs in Turkey) published three guides, with the support of the Turkish-Swedish Cooperation Department of the Consulate General of Sweden in İstanbul. Issued in both print and digital formats, the guides are titled 'LGBTI + Human Rights Awareness Workshops Facilitation Guide', 'LGBTI+ Families Hotline Guide', 'LGBTI+ Families Media and Communication Strategy Guide'.

During the pandemic, LISTAG met with members of Ankara GALADER, as well as Antalya, Denizli, İstanbul and İzmir family groups in various online workshops, and then issued three guides to respond to the needs identified in the workshops, with the support of Turkish-Swedish Cooperation Department of the Consulate General of Sweden in İstanbul.

LGBTI + Human Rights Awareness Workshops Facilitation Guide

This guide offers suggestions on topics such as basic workshop methodology for training and learning, facilitation, and workshop planning. The guide also features various exercises concerning gender, prejudice, discrimination, basic LGBTI+ concepts and myths, as well as the programs of experience groups.

Hotline Guide for LGBTI + Families

This guide covers concepts around identity and coming out. The guide provides information on volunteering in hotlines and communication techniques, as well as questions frequently asked in hotlines and their answers.

LGBTI+ Families Media and Communication Strategy Guide

This guide focuses on the role of media in advocacy work. The guide offers tips concerning media interviews and communication with journalists, as well as how to act when journalists reach out to LGBTI + family groups. It is argued that just like journalists, activists should focus on the Five Ws of journalism, and do the necessary preparation beforehand.
