Association of Business Women in Diyarbakır (DİKAD) has started a job guaranteeing project including 20 disadvantaged women. The project aims both drawing attention to textile sector, which has high potention in Diyarbakır, and bringing women into the business world.

In cooperation with Social Support Programme (SODES) and Turkish Labour Agency (İŞKUR), Association of Business Women in Diyarbakır (DİKAD) has started a project for disadvantaged women in Diyarbakır. Reyhan Aktar, chairwoman of DİKAD, explained in their press conference: “Poverty and unemployment are particularly a problem for disadvantaged people in Diyarbakır. 59% of Turkey’s population consists of 15-64 age group; however, Diyarbakır is the last city in terms of labour force participation rate. Investments have increased due to Diyarbakır’s high labour force potential, but disadvantaged people still face discrimination, low wages policy, informal employement in their working environment.”

Aktar said that Diyarbakır’s advantage in terms of textile and ready-made clothing is its population of unemployed women.  Their project, which is planned to start in 2018, aims to draw attention to investment opportunities and employ women in textile sector. Within the frame of the project, 20 women will be given applied training on cutting, sewing, machinery, quality control for six months and then they will undergo a one month period of training in textile companies. At least half of the participators will have the chance to be employed.
