Not an Animal Protection Law but an Animal Massacre Law
26 Haziran 2018

Following the week of the horrible abuse against a puppy in Sapanca, citizens of Turkey stood up against animal violence, which is still a growing issue in Turkey.
Almost every day a new violence story strikes and those who fight in the field of animal rights say that the legal sanctions are not deterring enough. The president of Homeless Animals and Nature Protection Association, Metin Yıldırım who is also the founder of Turkey’s first Animal Rights Center, describes the background of those violent events; saying current animal rights draft law paves the way for municipalities to commit massacres.
Yıldırım also adds; “the first law which was enacted for animal rights in the Rebuplic’s history was removed by AKP government. But this law is a hollow law. We want to change existing legislation and we reiterate: the Law must meet deterrence with imprisonment.
