”Victory is for the workers who resist”, “Long live class solidarity”. These are among the slogans shouted in front of Flormar’s factory, a cosmetic brand operating in Gebze.
Tens of women say they were fired and forced to resign because they joined the labour union or supported their unionized friends.
Many of them want to go back to their jobs if they are granted their union rights and get a pay raise.
They say that troubles began when unionization had started in the factory in January and once the union got authorization, dismissals began.
Flormar: These are illegal actions
Kosan Kozmetik, which owns Flormar, declined BBC’s demand to do an interview.
In their written statement to BBC Turkish, they said the workers stopped the production contrary to labor act and urge their colleagues to join illegal actions, even tried to use violence.
