The Ministry of Family -Which Was Established Instead of Ministry Of Women-, is Being Linked to the Ministry Of Labor

Last night, President Erdoğan had a gathering with the college students in Ankara Beştepe for sahur and he made an important statement about the decision of unification of the Ministry Of Family and Social Policies, the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Social Security.

The Ministry of Family and Women was closed in 2011 and instead the Ministry of Family And Social Policies was established. Since then, women organizations have been running campaigns for the establishment of a Ministry of Women.

Selime Büyükgöze from Mor Çatı, Nebahat Akkoç from KAMER and Meriç Eyüboğlu, who is a feminist attorney, evaluated this statement. While Büyükgöze and Eyüboğlu reminded that the women movement has been striving for the establishment of the Ministry of Women or equalization since 2011, they also added that the Ministry of Family And Social Policies is already incapable of new and sufficient policies regarding women. Akkoç draws attention to the inadequacy of the Ministry as well.
