Flying Broom: Child Marriage Means Child Labor

Flying Broom Women’s Communication and Research Association stated “child marriage means child labor” in their 1 May press release.

Emphasizing child marriages are an act of violence and labor exploitation, Flying Broom indicated that girls are forced to undertake gender roles which are attributed to women right after they get married.

Some statements from the release are as follows:

“Child marriage means child labor and child abuse, nothing else.”

“We say no to patriarchy’s exploitation! Traditions are not an excuse to take advantage of child labor!”

“We say no to make girls leave their schools, obey patriarchy and marry to help home economics!”

“We call ILO to treat child marriages as child labor and see girls’ exploited labor.”

“We demand the enforcement of required legislations and policies against child labor, including child marriages in Turkey.”
