Governorship of Ankara announced the prohibition of events organized by LGBTI+ associations on November 18^th. After the announcement, Sexual Education-Treatment and Research Association (Cinsel Eğitim Tedavi ve Araştırma Derneği, CETAD), Psychiatric Association of Turkey and Turkish Psychological Association declared a joint statement.

Joint statement included information on high rates of impunity in hate crimes against LGBTI+ communities.

A part from the statement: “Communities that are targets of hate crimes must be protected. It is both central and local governments’ primary duty to develop an agenda for preventing hate crimes among the society. These kinds of prohibitions criminalize LGBTI+ identities, stir social hatred and hostility against LBGTI+ communities and puts public safety in danger by legalizing hatred, attacks or discriminating manners against LGBTI+ people. These prohibitions will set the grounds for new hate crimes.”
