<p>The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats (TEMA) made a list of environmental events of Turkey that happened in 2017.</p>
<p>The good news on the list are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Savannas were put under preservation by the decision of Turkish cabinet. (January-June, 2017)</li>
<li>The article which would have led olive groves to be zoned for construction was withdrawn from the omnibus bill. (31 May 2017)</li>
<li>Environmental impact assessment application regarding gold mining in Gökçeada was withdrawn. (14 December 2017)</li>
<li>Constuction of the thermal power plant in Terme was suspended. (19 December 2017)</li>
<li>Wild life population in Eastern Black See region increased. (25 December 2017)</li>
</ul>
<p>The bad news on the list are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Mining permit in Cerattepe/Artvin put natural life in danger. Although local people struggled hard to stop the mining company, environmental pollution became a huge threat for the wild life and apiculture. (June 2017)</li>
<li>Critical process concerning the permission of constructing a thermal power plant in Eskişehir started. (Semptember 2017)</li>
<li>Pastures were zoned for construction by the article in omnibus bill. (November 2017)</li>
<li>Highway project threatening flamingos’ breeding site in Gediz Delta/İzmir received legal permit. (June 2017)</li>
<li>Ali Ulvi and Aysin Büyüknohutçu, defenders of life who led the struggle against the marble quarries in Antalya, were brutally murdered at their home at Kızılcık Yaylası, Finike. (9 May 2017)</li>
</ul>
<p>Around 200 olive trees were destroyed in Amasra to construct a thermal power plant. (25 December 2017)</p>
