No Place for Strong Women in Textbooks

Comparative Education Association prepared a report by comparing textbooks of current and previous curriculum in terms of secularism and gender equality.

The report reveals that women’s visibility decreased compared to last year’s books. There is also discrimination in domestic work sharing, gender discrimination regarding occupations.

It is recorded in the report that concept of human rights is shown as a relative and isolated notion. “Respecting human rights was stated to be one of the fundamental values that keep a society together in 2016’s ninth-grade religion textbook. However, in 2017’s book, concept of human rights is not mentioned. On the contrary, it is shown as a relative social value.”
