The First Kurdish Dictionary of Herbs after 14 Years of Research

Ahmet Kasımoğlu, agricultural engineer living in Diyarbakır, prepared the first Kurdish dictionary of herbs after 14 years of research. Kasımoğlu collected more than 20 thousand words by wandering around South-east of Turkey and Iraq Kurdish territory.

Here is what he tells about his story: “I am an agricultural engineer, that’s what I do. There were different definitions for same herbs around the region, that’s why I thought it would be good to collect every name around me. I started working on it in 1999. My mother collected many herbs and introduced them one by one when I told her about my plan. That gave me courage and speed. First I started collecting some herbs’ names around me and reached over 20 thousand words in time.”
