A Call from Youngsters with Down Syndrome: “Instead of Speaking For Us, Listen to Us!”

Down Syndrome Association in Turkey Down fights against any kind of discrimination which individuals with down syndrome face among the society.

Now, the association implements a project called “My Voice My Society” to help individuals with down syndrome to speak for themselves.   

Supported by Sabancı Foundation, the project includes trainings on self-defense technics to support youngsters with down syndrome to defend and express themselves. Cooperating with Down Syndrome International, the association aims to expand the project into many other cities in Turkey and  break down the prejudices.

Operating since 2009, Down Syndrome Association aims to change perceptions among the society by “My Voice My Society” project which is the first in Turkey and supported by Sabancı Foundation. For the first time in Turkey, the association established a self defense group called Söz +1  people to support individuals with down syndrome to express their thoughts and demands themselves.
