Civil Society’s Handicaps During the Solution Process: Partiality and Withdrawal

Peace Foundation held a meeting in Istanbul called “Solution Process and the CSOs”. CSO representatives, journalists and academicians in the meeting discussed Cuma Çiçek’s “NGOs at the 2013-2015 Resolution Process” report.

Hakan Tahmaz, President of Peace Foundation, said it is a precious effort to constantly remind the idea of peace, in an atmosphere where the word “peace” is seen as a threat itself. “We pay a heavy price for not being able to continue with the solution process. The Kurdish problem has become a regional issue, gone out of our borders. Now, there are many sides to contribute to the solution, it all got complicated. All of these show that we need to uses the time well. Even when the feeling of alienation and conflict prevails, we should be able to make everyone turn their faces towards peace.”

Academician Cuma Çiçek made a presentation about their report called “NGOs at the 2013-2015 Resolution Process”. He said: “Most of the CSOs think that solution process for the Kurdish issue will be on the agenda again on a political scale, however; they don’t think it will be very soon. The turning point is seen as the general and presidential elections in June. They think that political turbulence might end after the elections and Kurdish issue might be back on the political agenda again.
