KA.DER Has Published Their Traditional 8th March Report

Turkeycould not pass the class again: “Extraordinary” inequality continues.

8 March 2018

KA.DER has published their tenth report on equal representation of women and men, on 8th March International Women’s Day.

KA.DER has been publishing their report regarding women’s participation in politics and decision making bodies since 2008. Last year, KA.DER was not able to study statistics due to the state of emergency and published a manifest instead.

KA.DER’s report showed women’s absence in decision making bodies again.

Some statistics from the report:

13.91% of deputies, 6.6% of mayors, %9.09 rectors, 2.4% of governors, 1.67% of district governors are women. 40% of cities do not have women deputies; 9.66% of districts do not have women local governors. 41.5% of corporate boards do not include women.

Only 75 out of 543 deputies and 2 out of 27 ministers are women. Bureaucracy keeps the tradition and men have most of the seats in the parliament.

According to World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report, Turkey comes 131st out of 145 countries. Global Gender Equality Index shows that Turkey regarded to 131st number in 2017 in comparison with 2016.

KA.DER reminded:

“In consideration of 8th March, we want to help remember all of the political parties;

Change your constitutions to enable gender equality and use zipper system for equal presentation! We call for all the women to get together and all the men to eliminate the barriers before women.”
