Cengiz Holding, the company searching for mine in naturally outstanding Artvin/Cerattepe, stopped their operations after the employees went on strike to get their rights.  Attorney Bedrettin Kalın said that they would take the case to the European Court of Human Rights according to the decision of the Constitutional Court of Turkey.

Cengiz Holding discharged many of their employees after they went on strike to get their rights and stopped their operations in Artvin “for now”. “We will not give up the fight to protect Artvin”, said attorney Bedrettin Kalın. He reminded over 700 individual applications made to the Constitutional Court of Turkey and he indicated that they would take the case to the European Court of Human Rights unless a result was obtained. “They cut many trees and polluted rivers even during the first months of the search. This project will destroy Artvin and needs to be stopped immediately”, he said.

Bedrettin Kalın reminded the 40.000 signatures submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey by Artvin’s environmental associations. “Our Parliament’s speaker said they would do what was necessary; however we, as people from Artvin, still wait for him to keep his words and take a positive step concerning the signatures”, he recorded.
